It’s America! Freedom of choice? The ruling class? Don’t tread on me? The land of the free? The land of the brave? The land of many things and many people. Most importantly, this is the freedom of Bob & Ron. Welcome to our latest episode. This is our sixth archived episode and was the 71rst episode that celebrated America and Independence. Settle in and give yourself a couple hours to join Bob & Ron on a journey of all vinyl record tracks. You’ll hear some Grateful Dead, Ten Years After, Devo and some newer vinyl from the great monster that is Ween. Also, don’t forget that you can follow Bob & Ron on Facebook by clicking on the link to the right of this blog. The facebook page is a fun place to learn about all sorts of things related to vinyl records and acts as a great supplement to our program here at The Sloping Companion. Thousands of years from now aliens will be receiving this signal and will awestruck at the unique world of vinyl records. This is a medium that must be preserved and this why we do what we do. Music is our gig and the world of psychedelia holds her roots here in another episode as we weave a specific theme and include pop culture references from the classic era when vinyl was king! Our society in this brave new world requires immediate satisfaction. However, sometimes it is extremely rewarding to earn your musical knowledge. Back in the 1990′s when I was starting to work out my style and tastes it was a totally different game. A music lover had to embark on a quest of sorts. You couldn’t get immediate downloads of albums of live concerts. The Internet was becoming readily available to the average household. However, if you wanted music then you had to establish relationships with live music tapers and wait. The waiting actually made the experience even more exciting than what we have today. We have lost the important element of time and anticipation. The music is still every bit as much as important as it was back when it was an effort. However, a little bit of the romance has certainly been lost and The Sloping Companion strives to bring a little bit of that back as Bob & Ron talk about the era leading up to today and how it has shaped the new quest that we embark on as the music of the past preserves itself on this website and hopefully influences the music of the present and the future.
We all live within specific boundaries. The great thing about this program is that we are allowed the release to forget about the mundane world and escape into a world that frees our mind through the very important task of escaping those boundaries that average out our lives. Bob & Ron always have interesting pieces of information about the songs and the bands that they seamlessly fold into a historical context about the time when listening to music was all about the process of art, packaging and pie in the sky sounds from way out and way in the minds of musicians experimenting with an entirely new developed genre.
Bob & Ron also player newer pieces of vinyl from artists that are clearly influenced by the time when records were the primary delivery source for consumers. Ween is a perfect example of this with their track “Freedom of 76″ that we spin on this episode before you.
