BOB AND RONS RECORD CLUB – ARCHIVE 5 – EPISODE 72

Welcome listeners!  This is show number 72, ahh 1972 what a great year for music.  If you are not familiar with the show, it’s a radio show that once was on in Chicago, where Bob and Ron played actual vinyl records. They did  not spin compact discs or mp3s.  Records…all vinyl all the time. Click here to listen!

It’s vinyl and it’s magical

In this episode, not only will you hear some amazing music but you will also hear Bob and Ron banter endlessly about nothing, something and anything. Hey..Something/Anything.  That’s a record by Todd Rundgren.  You will hear a cut by him from that album.

Todd Rundgren – Something/Anything

He also produced Stage Fright by The Band.  You will also hear a cut from it on this episode.

The Band – Stage Fright – Covert Art

You see..It’s stream of consciousness radio.  It’s just like that last sentence.  It’s improvised and right out of the box.  It’s shooting off the top of their pointy little heads.  Bob and Ron are still alive and well, living in Chicago and probably listening to albums by Chicago as I type this out on my new fangled hoo doo machine.  They love that band and the city.  They can be found on facebook.  Have you heard about this new fangled site?  You can join us by clicking on the link to the right…Shit…click here you vagabond mystic.

Also, within this episode, you will hear cuts by the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, Lighthouse, Badfinger and Alice Cooper.  They just don’t hold back.  They don’t adhere to any format.  In fact, they frown upon formats in general.  They frown upon frowning.  They frown upon many things in the modern world.  They should of been born decades earlier but lucky for you, the listener, they were not.  They are now, then and in between the future.  This might be the greatest radio show of the era in which it originated.

There are vintage commercials, funny little drops of brilliance and yea they might talk a little. Don’t try and call them on the phone.  They don’t have a phone or know how to work one, or a radio show anymore for that matter.  However, the archives are real.  They exist and are ready for you to listen to them now with a little help from the editing staff at The Sloping Companion.  Please spread the word of this here radio show and share it like that special little secret that needs to be spread because that is how we feel at The Sloping Companion.  You can say you heard it first and you can be the one to turn your friends on to Bob and Ron just like you are the one to turn you friends on to new or old bands they have never heard.  This is what Bob and Ron’s Record Club was all about.  They got off on  turning you on to new/old music.

The Moody Blues – Every Good Boy Deserves Favour

Many of the bands are familiar but the cuts are a little bit deeper.  They are not the big hit  but  are one of the good songs from those great albums.  The thing about the record club is that there are no dues, no fees and no subscriptions.  It’s free.  It’s totally free.  There is no charge to you, the listener.  Check out the wacky callers, check out the funny banter, and check out these songs because they are handpicked by Bob and Ron from their vast collections.  Also, besides Bob and Ron, you will hear their sidekick “Ed The Head” as he pressed the buttons and turned the dials so it can be narrow-casted to the world.  God bless him.  God bless Bob and Ron.  God bless the groovy God to you, too.  With any luck, and with your help by spreading the gospel of the BRRC we will continue to stream their silly little show that could.  If you would then why would you not, spread the word, that is.  Now go forth and listen.  Listen and rejoice in the brilliant booming tones and sounds of yesterday today and tomorrow.  Wait, they didn’t play anything by tomorrow.  Maybe next time…

It’s Bob and Ron’s Record Club.  Strap on your listening helmet, point your mind beam antennae to the stars, and well, just listen…you’ll get it.
